This unit is the first of three compulsory units in primary mathematics education. The unit aims to promote students' understanding of how children's mathematical concepts develop in two key areas - number and measurement. Student's interaction with and analysis of childrens' responses to mathematical tasks will be used as a stimulus for them to examine their own understandings of some of the key mathematical concepts, terminology, operations and procedures related to our number systems and measurement.
