This unit is an elective unit in Health and Physical Education. The trimester will consist of both lectures and practical classes that examine a range of issues which commonly arise when teaching Physical Education and Sport in schools. One such issue is the question of how competition is used (and abused) and how rules and equipment need to be modified to suit the age and ability of the children. Much is made of the potential for children to learn about fair play and to build ‘character' but which games best serve this purpose and how do teachers encourage these attributes?
