This unit prepares teachers (and allied professionals) for their statutory obligations in preventing, identifying, responding to and notifying suspected child abuse. The unit seeks to develop teachers' (and other professionals’) competence in the area of school-based child protection in particular. Knowledge and skills in recognising all forms of child abuse and understanding the contexts in which it occurs will be developed throughout the unit. The operation of child protection services will be examined and the potential for teachers' effective collaboration explored.
