This unit aims to develop students' awareness of the role of language and literacy in learning, introduce them to the reading and writing processes, broaden their understanding of the language demands of their particular teaching area and equip them with strategies to develop students' language. It will focus on: definitions of language and literacy; theories of reading and writing processes; oral language and its importance in learning; teacher talk and its role in student learning; second language learning and the second language learner; the language of texts and genres across KLAs, the development of teaching strategies which promote oral language in small group and large group... -- Course Website
