Eco crime is a topic of growing international importance. In the face of emerging threats such as the impact of climate change, pollution, population growth and depleting natural resources, we can expect continued debate as to how individuals, business and governments should manage these uncertainties. Criminology has traditionally been much less interested in environmental issues than other forms of crime, but we are seeing a renewed interest in eco or environmental crime under an emergent ‘green criminology’, a concept which calls for criminology to address the role that individuals, corporations, governments and societies more broadly play in generating environmental harms.
