The contemporary context for the practice of journalism in Australia today is becoming increasingly complex. The new multi-media environment is the subject of many social debates. This unit provides the means to explore these contemporary debates. The unit aims to enable students to understand the complexities of the contemporary journalistic environment and understand the changes in modern journalistic professional practice. Students will be encouraged to critically assess theories, which attempt to explain the nexus between the media and society and the role of journalists.
