This unit aims to introduce students to the problems of governance in modern politics. Governance will be considered in relation to the issues arising from the fields of (a) public policy and administration, (b) international and transnational politics and (c) comparative politics. Attention is directed to the debates over the criteria of good governance to be found in theories of democracy and neoliberalism. The unit examines different models of democracy advocated for location, national, regional, and transnational level of politics. It also outlines the challenges posed by neoliberal ideas of the state and economy. In this way the unit also offers an introduction to democratic politics. -- Course Website
