The unit will familiarise students with the strengths and weaknesses in the philosophy, system and processes of World Heritage listing. It will identify key contemporary issues relating to World Heritage listing, including the divergence in heritage approaches between different world regions, the Eurocentric imbalance in the current list, the intense tourism pressures on World Heritage sites and the need for more effective monitoring mechanisms. The unit will develop student skills in identifying system deficits and in outlining the parameters for more effective cultural tourism management on World Heritage sites. -- Course Website
