This unit will explore the impact of conflict on the development process, ways in which conflict can be resolved, and the impact of the conflict resolution process on forms of development. The unit will begin by assessing various forms of conflict and how such conflict occurs, paying special attention to intra-state, post-colonial conflict and terrorism, and claims to self-determination and religious uniformity. It then considers the literature on conflict and conflict resolution. The unit assesses the impact of such conflict on the development process generally, and the impact of victims of conflict in particular.
