This unit will provide students with the scientific principles the underpin intensive and extensive animal production systems. Students will learn the anatomical, physiological, biochemical and genetic concepts that are the basis of animal production through lectures and laboratory sessions. These principles will be related to production parameters including growth, pregnancy, lactation, health management, breeding programs and the production of fibre products such as wool and mohair. Production parameters are related to annual on-farm production and decision making calendar, with particular emphasis of dryland (rainfed) farming systems. -- Course Website
